Temporary Hours at the Northside Library Undergoes Recarpeting Project
Beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, the Northside Library will open at 3 PM, Monday-Friday.
A project that has long been in the works at the Northside Library is ready to enter the next phase. In 2021, the Kenosha Public Library was one of 52 institutions to cultural institutions and nonprofit organizations across the state awarded funds from the Wisconsin Humanities Recovery Grant. KPL was awarded a $5,000 grant for its application, "Meeting the New Normal: Capacity Building Library Space Planning Post-COVID." These funds brought ThirdWay Planners from New York City to perform a space audit on the Southwest and Northside neighborhood libraries. The findings gathered from these audits have helped guide KPL as we redesign spaces to meet the evolving needs of community members as we continue walking through the new normal together.
"One of the great benefits of having four libraries nestled in neighborhoods is when we have the opportunity to embark on projects like this, we can utilize phases to minimize the disruption of service," shared Brandi Cummings, Kenosha Public Library's Head of Community Programs and Partnerships. "The Southwest Library redesign project not only finished early but with minimum hiccups, we anticipate the Northside Library recarpeting process will yield similar results. More than that, we are excited to refresh the space at the Northside Library and carve out a dedicated Teen Space for our younger population."
Redesign projects always have some obstacles. During the next phase of this project, which involves recarpeting large portions of the library, the Northside Library will have temporary hours to facilitate the swift and safe progress of the project. Beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, the Northside Library's operating hours will be as follows:
Mondays 3-9 PM
Tuesdays 3-9 PM
Wednesdays 3-9 PM
Thursdays 3-9 PM
Fridays 3-6 PM
Saturdays 9 AM - 5 PM
Sunday 12-4 PM
All other Kenosha Public Library locations will maintain regular operating hours.
